Moin Khan, a former captain of the Pakistan cricket team, has some serious about how Azam Khan, his son, is treated by the cricket selectors & management in Pakistan. Moin’s Worries About Azam’s Treatment

I watched every game of the World Cup and before it. It really seemed like Azam was set as the top choice for both wicketkeeping & batting. But then, just after one match, all of that changed.” This quick switch hurt Azam’s confidence and growth as a player.

Pakistan didn’t do so hot in the World Cup either they won two games but lost against both the USA & India. Moin pointed out how these quick decisions can really mess with player spirits and their growth. He added, “Azam didn’t even get a fair chance after that first match and got dropped just because he got out without scoring any runs [against USA]. It can happen to anyone! The way they used to develop players is disappearing.”

While Moin agrees that

there are some valid concerns over Azam’s fitness levels, he mentioned that Azam is working on it now. “He has things to work on too,” Moin noted. “He has to be tougher physically & mentally and stay on top of fitness like other athletes do. I’ve seen him working hard with his trainer over the last month, even taking him along to play in the Caribbean Premier League.”

Moin Khan’s Take on Captaincy

Apart from his worries about Azam’s treatment, Moin shared strong thoughts about who leads Pakistan cricket. He backs Shaheen Shah Afridi, who used to be captain for T20s and could possibly take charge of ODIs too. Moin wasn’t happy about Shaheen being taken out of captaincy and called that unfair. “Shaheen Afridi can lead well and is well-liked among players,” he stated clearly. “He’d make a great captain for T20s. Taking him out of that role was not fair.”
